Brooklyn - District 16


The table below shows the results from the math exam after partnering with NTN for one year. These gains were the highest in the state of NY.

PS 5K received an average of two (2) on-site coaching visits from NTN each month throughout the 15-16 school year. Based on principal feedback, all math classrooms implemented SOLVE consistently and increased the use of the concept development model.


Abram Stevens Hewitt - PS 130

Bronx - District 8

PS 130X partnered with NTN at the start of the 2015-2016 School Year. They received coaching an average of 2 days per month with an explicit focus on problem solving and developing teacher’s math content and pedagogy in grades 3 through 5.

Of particular interest, trends in the data above demonstrates that PS 130X significantly outperformed the city average in the following areas:

  • Grade 3: Measurement & Data: PS 130X had a 10% gain compared to NYC with a 5% gain.
  • Grade 4: Number and Operations in Base 10: PS 130X had a 15% gain compared to NYC with a 1% loss.
  • Grade 5: Geometry: PS 130X had a 7% gain compared to NYC with a 2% loss.

Samuel Randall - PS 138

Bronx - District 8

PS 138X partnered with NTN at the start of the 2015-2016 School Year. They received coaching an average of 2 days per month with an explicit focus on curriculum mapping, problem solving, and developing teacher’s math content and pedagogy grades 3 through 5.

Of particular interest, trends in the data above demonstrates that PS 138X significantly outperformed the city average in the following areas:

  • Grade 3: Measurement & Data: PS 138X had a 10% gain compared to NYC with a 5% gain.
  • Grade 4: Measurement and Data: PS 138X had a 9% gain compared to NYC with a 1% loss.
  • Grade 5: Geometry: PS 138X had a 2% gain compared to NYC with a 2% loss.

Early Childhood - PS 304

Bronx - District 8

PS 304X partnered with NTN at the start of the 2015-2016 School Year. They received coaching an average of 2 days per month with an explicit focus on problem solving and developing teacher’s math content and pedagogy.

Of particular interest, trends in the data above demonstrates that PS 304X significantly outperformed the city average in the following areas:

  • Grade 4
    • Geometry PS 304X had a 16% gain compared to NYC with a 2% gain.
    • Measurement and data PS 304X had a 5% gain compared to NYC with a 1% loss.
    • Number and Operations in Base 10 PS 304X had a 4% gain compared to NYC with a 1% loss.
    • Number and Operations- Fractions PS 304X had a 7% gain compared to NYC with a 5% gain.
    • Operations and Algebraic Thinking PS 304X had a 3% gain compared to NYC with a 4% loss.

Chicago

North Chicago - District 187

Academic Success Index - Math

The following table shows the math data from North Chicago District 187 on the state exam after partnering with National Training Network for one year:

The results shows the academic growth index for students in mathematics grades 3 through 8 after one year of partnering with NTN. Each school received an average of two (2) onsite coaching visits per month and grade specific training designed to deepen teacher’s content knowledge and pedagogy.

Of particular interest, the state had a 2 point gain, while partnering schools achieved anywhere from a 6 to 16 point increase. Therefore, all schools who partnered with NTN outperformed the state in terms of growth after only one year.


New York

The Urban Institute of Mathematics - MS 371

Bronx - District 8

MS 371 partnered with NTN at the start of the 2015-2016 School Year. They received coaching an average of 1 day per month with an explicit focus on problem solving, and analyzing data to drive plans for instruction.

Of particular interest, trends in the data above demonstrates that MS 371 significantly outperformed the city average in the following areas:

  • Grade 8
    • Expressions and Equations MS 371 had a 6% gain compared to NYC with a 4% loss.
    • Functions MS 371 had a 2% gain compared to NYC with a 1% loss.

Frederick Douglass Academy VIII - MS 452

Brooklyn - District 19

MS 452 partnered with NTN at the start of the 2015-2016 School Year. They received coaching an average of 2 days per month with an explicit focus on problem solving, and developing teacher’s math content and pedagogy.

  • Grade 8
    • Geometry MS 452 had a 19% gain compared to NYC with a 6% loss.
    • Expressions and Equations MS 452 had a 19% gain compared to NYC with a 4% loss.
    • Functions MS 452 had a 24% gain compared to NYC with a 1% loss.
    • Statistics and Probability MS 452 had a 12% gain compared to NYC with a 10% loss.

Queens – District 27

Goddard HS used NTN’s KEAS lessons in conjunction with items, lessons, tasks, and activities pulled from engage and other online sources. The big shift at Goddard was the change in pedagogical practices and focus on content. The training and coaching provided NTN focused on developing a deeper understanding of the content, as well as demonstrated the types of strategies that would foster that understanding for students.

Coaching took place an average of two (2) days per month in year one (2014-2015) and one (1) day per month in year two (2015-2016).


John Dewey High School

Brooklyn – District 21
