This session explores expressions and solving one step equations in Grade 6, focusing on building conceptual understanding through concrete and pictorial representations. Participants will model problems using algebra tiles to build the conceptual understanding of solving equations. Through intentional use of tools, participants will connect models to build towards the algorithm for one step equations. Teachers will engage in discussions about rigor, student misconceptions, and how multiple representations support mathematical discourse and deeper learning.
