What is KEMAC?
KEMAC—Key Elements to Methodology Approach to Content—is a professional learning model developed by the National Training Network (NTN) to strengthen both the content knowledge and coaching capacity of math instructional leaders.
KEMAC is more than training—it’s a methodology. It equips coaches to lead instruction with minimal prep time and empowers them to:
• Model strategies and lead small-group instruction
• Facilitate content-rich PLCs
• Make instructional decisions grounded in deep conceptual understanding
• Use manipulatives and tools aligned to upcoming units
• Support teacher learning across the full conceptual → pictorial → abstract (CPA) progression
KEMAC sessions are:
• Hands-on and collaborative
• Centered on how students (and adults) make sense of math
• Aligned with NTN’s mission to ensure all students become confident problem solvers
